"the rather comfortable falling progression, the grand stature, the kind of futuristic warbled weird vocal wash, the darkly dream pop nature and something that oddly (or maybe not so oddly) had me swallowing cues that made me think of the mid 70's hit song "Lovin' You" by Minnie Riperton"
The eerily dreamy and sonically tubular atmosphere of "Жан Рено" by Berlin based abstract alternative project Уважаемый (Respected), members of the Russian underground music scene - namely Vitalii Zimin handling vocals / lyrics / music and Konstantin Raidugin crafting the arrangements / mixing / mastering, is for me a trippy ascend into another world. I mean by all accounts, I would think that a song in Russian, and a sort of trippy sideways one, would not stir my imagination but, well, it has. It may be the rolling cadence (hypnotic), the rather comfortable falling progression, the grand stature, the kind of futuristic warbled weird vocal wash, the darkly dream pop nature and something that oddly (or maybe not so oddly) had me swallowing cues that made me think of the mid 70's hit song "Lovin' You" by Minnie Riperton and the Red Room little person dancing in Twin Peaks all at the same time.
Mesmerizing.
LINER NOTES (excerpted / bracketed):
[«Уважаемый» is a Berlin-based project whose name literally translates from Russian as “Respected.” In everyday slang, however, it often carries a subtly dismissive or ironic tone — commonly heard from taxi drivers, security guards, or officials when addressing someone they don’t really know. The project was born from the creative synergy of two notable figures in Russia’s underground music scene: Vitalii Zimin, known for «Макет» and Pivnoy Cowboy, and Pavel Samarin of «Музыка для грузовых лифтов». After releasing several singles and EPs, the project has evolved into Vitalii’s solo venture, continuing its distinctive artistic path.]
