AP Track / EP Review
Beautiful by Bamberg and from the "Lost" EP is a short little burst of dark ennui. The stair stepping guitar notes and reticent keys both that stumble in human ways while vox sounds (maybe spread electronically or not) are pushed apart in weird dissonant ways. The song falls into the next called Everything while ambient sound that remind me of distant police car wails cause tension in the background, the vox are highly effected again, the song plodding almost painfully like a funeral. Interestingly, the next song, Alone, might just be the slow pain ridden walk from the coffin to a house full of sad souls. The guitar chords have classic and Gothic tones with levels of emotion while the voices just say "I'm alone" and "alone". It is all so exquisitely dour but in such a beautiful way. The outro, I believe, has a similar tone as all before. Bamberg definitely creates a dark trippy mood. I will end this brief review with the first track, Need You, which like the entire EP feels like dark bedroom pop, like broken baroque pop pushed through art rock / avant garde filters. I couldn't help but think of images that just might exist in Tim Burton's mind while listening and, yes, their are more songs to discover but I will leave that gift for you.
From Cologne, Germany.
