AP Track Review
Someone To Keep You Warm by Alexandria Maillot from her 2nd album "Benevolence" (dropped 11/22/2019) starts like an otherworldly gospel song in some faraway church with Maillot's evocative vox and trippy organ. The combination cast images in your mind but when the new wave kind of Gary Neuman-esque dark heavy synth bass drops in it becomes something else entirely. The change made me smile as did the cagey shifting drums. At a certain point, with other sounds filling the spaces, the two conflicting styles merge into one lush beat driven jag and, then, it abruptly ends. It feels like a tease of a song, I mean, I wanted to hear at least 2 more minutes of this cool musical story. I guess I will just have to put it on repeat.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES
Alexandria Maillot’s resume is as colourful as her genre-blending timbre. Her gritted, inflective vocals and lyrical narratives have often drawn comparisons to music heavyweights such as Feist, Stevie Nicks, and Alabama Shakes’, Brittany Howard. Today, the Vancouver Island-raised “swoon rock” artist continues to solidify her place in the Canadian music landscape with the release of her 2nd album Benevolence.
The new record digs deep; it’s the gut wrench of a heartbreak, the belly drop of a rollercoaster. The album is abrasive, as if you are a part of an altercation, and yet, it is refreshing to the ear with its genre-defining sounds; a fusion of southern rock and old country, all wrapped up in a 90s aesthetic.
Alexandria Maillot alternates between a solo project and a band. Overall, it is a fleeting music experience that changes with the seasons, constantly yearning for connection and seeking out those who see music as therapy.
Alexandria released a new album today along with a video for the track "Someone To Keep You Warm". The song comes from a dark place, but plays as a fun, danceable alt-pop track.
Performing since the age of seven, Alexandria has already amassed an impressive list credits, including being scouted by David Foster at age 12, working with Randy Bachman, and even being featured on the Oprah Winfrey network. Other credits include: Publishing songs with international artists (Stefanie Heinzmann) and TV/Film (Young and the Restless, MTV’s World of Jenks, Hallmark’s Heart of Spring, Nancy Grace, Chesapeake Shores); winning several accolades (Shore 104.3’s Best of BC $10,000 grant, LG $5,000 VanCover contest); being featured on numerous music platforms (American Airlines InFlight Entertainment, Virgin Radio’s Best of BC program, Peak Performance Project Top 20 finalist); performing at numerous festivals (Rifflandia, Vancouver Island Music Fest, Riverfest Elora, Tiny Lights, Iceland Airwaves) and touring extensively across Canada and the EU. The 2016 release of her debut album, Time, has proven to be a body of work that has merited national radio attention and widespread critical acclaim amongst industry peers and music lovers alike.
