I tell my daughters that there are predators out and to always be aware of their surroundings. It is something you shouldn't have to say but you must because it is true. I cringe at the sight of a woman walking all alone and if my wife and I are loading groceries late at night and their is one lone woman pushing her shopping cart to her car, I slow down putting our bags in and push my cart even slower to the shopping cart area so I can see her drive away safely.
Hayley Mary's soaring Like A Woman Should is a hooky, free wheelin' sort of indie rocker with an almost country western sway and 60's pop wash. Mary with her proto punk look and voice that is equally beautiful and commanding has something to say on this track. It is an anthem for all women, our mothers, aunties, sisters, daughters and daughters to be (as Mary eludes to) for all women to feel safe walking home alone at night (or in the light of day).
"And sometimes I wish that I was, wish that I was, wish that I was born in another time In the future, see my daughters born, see my daughters born Born into a world where Suddenly like I could walk the street, I walk the street like a woman should Like nobody was around"
Like A Woman Should is a beautiful cool rocker and off Hayley Mary's debut EP "The Piss, The Perfume" dropping tomorrow (January 17, 2020).
