"you shouldn't blame yourself"
London alt pop singer-songwriter OLI aka Olivia Masek has just released her first single with the exuberant title Happy or, well, it could be an ironic title though couldn't it? The single begins with a jazzy horn and pearly sounds and OLI's exquisite voice slightly ghosted by a low cloned track (or sig other's voice maybe). The words about a closed off partner and maybe doubts about his standoffishness and her desire to make him happy and to feel happy. So the chill, beautifully poised indie pop song is at once complex and full of drama.... aw such is life.
I do absolutely love the vibe of this track and OLI's vocal aesthetic. Happy premiered on CLOUT on Valentine's day and OLI had this to say:
“I think whenever you care about someone you want them to be ‘Happy’. Unfortunately you can’t hand someone their happiness, its not down to you and you shouldn’t blame yourself if you can’t deliver exactly what they need. At the end of the day it’s up to them and only them.”
There I am pasting off another website (rarely happens). Why can't I just be Happy goddamn it.
