"harmonically complex"
We have covered Gareth Inkster here at AP before, maybe once or twice and, in fact, we refer to him as "The Inkster" here, for no particular reason except we are weird here. I say this to say that when we see his name tied to one of his songs we know his cred. We know that the song has a 99 percent chance of dazzling us and this new one has. It is called Used To It and it is at once, sparkly, tightly wound and terribly endearing all at once.
The Hamilton, Ontario singer songwriter has a way about him, in the way he can poise his words on roller coaster melodies that will charm you and make you feel something. During the second verse of Used To It, the stacatto push of sounds with muted electric guitars push the otherwise pop into indie rock strains and when it gets bigger with a orchestrated break (and a solid drum beat) it really takes off with romance fully intact. I hope this is an inclination, a direction that (clearing throat) "The Inkster" is considering, angling his indie pop rock sounds even harder, just a bit. In any event, he seems to win us over each and every time.
