"but still stay in school"
Amir Miles' soulful track Indigo (featuring Nxfce) is a perfect sonic drug. Absorb it and you are hooked. Sometimes if a track is incredibly good at seeping into my psyche I try to analyze it. Indigo is, well, painted with the perfect colors. From a sonic standpoint, the beat sounds are upfront but not annoyingly so, the keys (with that delicious melody during the breaks has that retro kind of Farfisa vibrato but softer). The bass lines descending / ascending are incredibly embracing. The bass is a big part of the allure but not bigger than Miles vocal aesthetic. It is so incredibly easy sounding, not forced, just passionate but real. I can't stand vocal gymnastics just as riffing around, as showing off. All this talk about the elements doesn't negate the song itself that feels like Miles is having an inner conversation with himself.
"The color Indigo is most like my relationships. It is beautiful and captivating, yet dark and sinister the closer you look. My interactions always begin in a state of euphoria, only to fall too deep into the abyss and see the reality in it's true form. The track Indigo is my attempt at best conveying my emotional state during a tumultuous relationship" - Amir Miles
It is no wonder that Amir Miles landed a distribution deal with Capitol Records. I cannot tell the story better than he can:
My name is Amir Miles. After dropping out of school, I caught a big break with features on Spotify's "Fresh Finds" and "New Music Friday". The exposure got me a cover story on the Pittsburgh City Paper, over a million streams, a distribution deal with Capitol Records and opening gigs for Gza, Kali Uchis, Migos etc... -(Press Notes)
