"we can talk about nothing"
Buí are based out of Belfast, Ireland, a collaborative musical project that orbits around the songs of singer-songwriter Josh Healy. With a debut album out late in 2017 called "Eugene" that centered around mental health, anxiety and self image, Buí has garnered fans while the collaborative has changed shape and members (as collectives do) while playing shows and festivals.
Buí's latest release A Conversation About Punk, from the onset, has seemingly soft edges that are in fact sharp and draw blood. Healy's sad yet tugging vocal sound spouts lyrics with a sort of fatalistic passion expressed through the quiet and loud musical moments too. The song and the music is punchy and post punk in both dirty and elegant ways. I love the aesthetic here like proto punk and sad core crashed together.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
Formed in May 2017, Buí is a collaborative musical project based around the music of singer songwriter Josh Healy. After being joined by permanent members Eoin Johnson, Adam Sloan and Ronan McQuillan, Healy quickly set about recording what would become Buí’s debut album, “Eugene.” Taking place at Earth Music Studios in Belfast, these sessions included a total of 14 musicians from the local rock, electronic, folk and traditional scenes, as well as collaborators from further afield. Buí’s permanent line-up was later completed with the addition of drummer Amy Nolan.
The album was released on the 27th of November 2017, accompanied by the band's first live appearance. Eugene’s 11 tracks are mainly concerned with issues surrounding mental health and emotional well being, particularly anxiety and self-image.
Since then, they have been playing extensively across the island of Ireland, including festival slots at the Galway Fringe Festival, Dublin’s Whelans Summerwatch Festival and a headline slot at Limerick’s Féile na Gréine.
Always a collaborative project, Buí’s line-up is ever changing as shown in a recent Irish tour in April 2019, where 3 stand-in members joined Josh and Adam for shows in Derry, Dublin, Cork and Belfast. After recently being signed by award winning producer Julie McLarnon’s Analogue Catalogue Records, Buí's released double A side Something Else to Talk About / People Don't Think. The lead track saw over 140,000 plays on Spotify to date.
Buí's next single is due on the 13th of March 2020 , A Conversation About Punk and has been accompanied by shows in Ireland and Scotland.
