"hold my body and tell me I'm ok"
Boy Brooks latest track Fields (Home) is the follow up to his his debut self titled EP "Brooks" (2019) and is a lush indie pop song with sort of new wave affectations. It moves so well, the instruments (all played by Brooks) have such a stellar pop interplay creating this shiny well made bed for Brook's sort of (but not really) dead pan delivery. His vocal aesthetic works though, offset by sparkly piano lines and double time energy. For some reasons, maybe it was the pop energy. I did think of The Cars at one point. Speaking of The Cars, my mind flashed on Elliot Easton just now and I have to say, clearly and precisely, that lead guitarist Johnny June (on Fields) absolutely kills it. See the video and you will see what I mean. Fields (Home) in the end, might be meant to be sort of funny and it is (sometimes) but more so it is totally smile inducing with sweet lyrics, a lovelorn pop song with sad curtains "worn out baby, tired, beat to the punch... thinking of the field where we shared our lunch... and that's when I call out to you and then's what I call home".

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
Boy Brooks is Brooklyn-based artist Brooks Allison. The Virginia native produces a heartfelt stylish indie rock for the queer introspective in us all. With influences including The War On Drugs, LCD Soundsystem & Tame Impala, Brooks' unique writing style and cool guitar work is showcased in his debut, self-titled EP. Five tracks produced by Jamie Siegel (Ms. Lauryn Hill, Blondie) in New York City. The album begins with a voice memo from Brooks' sister giving him advice, and leads you into a dreamy and vulnerable musical experience, covering topics like coming out, social anxiety, questioning, and edibles.
Brooks is also a house-performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade theatre in NYC. His background in acting and comedy seeps into his writing and performance style as Boy Brooks. An aloof, confused gay boy putting himself out there.
