"I'll make a man out of you"
Cistern Chapel by Vancouver's Aversions (debut single) starts with strident guitar down strokes and when the drum beat comes in my eye brow is instantly raised. Then when this lush heavy bass line drops in both eyebrows raise and finally when an opposing guitar, all choppy and jagged comes in as a counter poised strike to the first guitar, along with a sort of snarling vocal, my eyes are fully wide open (and I am listening intently). It is like this beautifully divergent punk puzzle is constructed piece by piece. The song has heavy proto punk affectations and I thought of Gang of Four and Television right away. Love this and cannot wait to hear more from Aversions. This is what they have to say about Cistern Chapel:
The debut single from Vancouver's Aversions, "Cistern Chapel" inhabits a YouTube demogogue who wants desperately to exist outside the constraints of the dogma of toxic masculinity he has created for himself and his followers.
Cistern Chapel will be on an upcoming EP due to drop on March 27th.
