"cinematic"
Mattia Cupelli is a skilled composer based out of Rome and has just released a single entitled "The Abduction of Orithya". The provative title alone screams out at you like it might be the latest great binge watching series on NetFlix and side A (by the same name) sounds like it would grace an evocative, haunting piece of media whether is be a stand alone movie or series. The tempered production with voices with only faint whispers of synthetic orchestration is both haunting and moving. As the production gets more powerful slowly engulfing those voices, it feels like a dark thing of beauty tinged with thoughts while feelings of abject horror grow in the background.
The B side is the track Mares of Diomedes and it feels much, much different but torn from the same cloth. There are sounds that feel ambient, torrents of radio static or crashing waves (or both), organic piano keys falling but stuttering too and synth swells, an electronic beat drops. There are a lot of conflicting sounds, mayhem and chaos here and while it doesn't appeal to me as much as The Abduction of Orithya (I tend to like more minimalist approaches), it is still a stirring piece of work.
