"Experimental pop band"
Springful is an "experimental pop" band based out of Austin, Texas that centers around the songwriting of Jim Hampton (guitar, vox) with support of two very talented musicians, Kinseli Jazz (bass) and Dominic Neri (drums). The song How Long Have You Known?, their first release for 2020, is emotionally driven, framed in layered guitar lines, shifting dramatic drum patterns, a super active bass line and even more active vocal melodies. Despite a few moments to breathe, the track moves in progressive indie rock ways, it jams precisely but can feel erratic too like the emotional back and forth arguments you have with yourself when relationships get heavy or broken. Hampton sings,
it's on your lips
how long have you known?
it's on your breath
how long have you known?
is it something else? can you tell me now?
how much am i worth when you go?
how long have you known?
It is heartbreaking stuff that, I suppose, most people can relate to. The song from conception to final formation was a long process for the band. It was birthed as a demo by Hampton before Springful even happened. Of the song Hampton offers,
"I try not to write breakup songs, but... this song is about ending it with someone despite loving them. I tracked a demo for this song in January 2018 when I decided to form Springful - a year and a half later we recorded drums during the same session as our last single. I meant to rerecord the guitars and bass that same session, but we couldn't get the tones right, so we just used the demo guitars. With pads and synths added, there's 2 years' worth of sessions represented here."

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
Austin, Texas – Experimental pop band Springful announced its second single “How Long Have You Known?” The song explores a tricky situation – if someone you love doesn’t feel the same way, when do you decide to leave? It’s an uncomfortable situation with only uncomfortable solutions, but the track pushes past the realization into a confrontation with the partner in question: How long have you known?
Songwriter Jim Hampton credits “How Long Have You Known?” as the first real Springful song and the impetus for the band’s formation. Hampton tracked the song’s first guitar demos, which ended up in the final mix, in January 2018, months before meeting bassist Kinseli Jazz and drummer Dominic Neri and over a year before the band’s first shows in 2019. Producer Mason Ables (Flora & Fawna, Jay Wile) ties together diamond-sharpened guitar lines, deep bass and aggressive drums into a mix that walks the line between alternative pop and dance punk.
About Springful:
What started as a means for songwriter Jim Hampton to perform a backlog of outlier-pop tunes became a fully-realized band after he connected with bassist Kinseli Jazz and drummer Dominic Neri through mutual friends. The band started rehearsing and fleshing out Hampton’s songs in earnest in early 2019, drawing influence from modern bedroom pop, Aughts indie and classic dance rhythms. In September 2019, Springful released a debut track “Braid,” as its first musical thesis. A second single, “How Long Have You Known?” followed in early 2020, expanding on Springful’s affinity for dense, crystal-clean guitars, muscular bass and post-disco percussion.
