"and you've got glass in the end of your fingers"
Laugh Out Loud by UK's Stranger feels like a sonic drink in between the discothèque and rave cultures of the late 80's but as I say this, I realize it also has an experimental vibe as well in that late 70's proto punk vein when bands like The Normal (Warm Leatherette) would fuse spoken word and industrial experimental punk together. Maybe it is really a blend of all three genres but whatever the case is, I like the aesthetic that Stranger, aka Charlie Gray brings to it. It is, after all, really dependent on his vocal performance and Gray has a way of sounding very internal as if he is trying to solve conditions and problems but also sounding a bit aloof and reticent. I also think that this would be less successful if that Brit accent was not there, at least it sounds very engaging from this side of the pond. Apart from the vocals and lyrical content, the trance inducing keys and beat is a cool framework for Gray to paint inside.
