"sit in the dark until you return to me"
Milk Windowlight is the musical project of singer-songwriter, producer Jake Mattison and his debut single Return To Me is the kind of indie rock / alt folk ballad that makes you feel it's weight. The gravitas built on the deep notes of a rack mounted Korg Triton his friend lent him. He "messed with it" for a few days and Return To Me was born, later adding other flourishes, guitar and his evocative voice. As a musician I know how a new instrument can draw emotions out of you that are already embedded inside but need some creative coaxing to materialize.
The song is about the realization of having a person so embedded in your life that they have helped to sculpt the person that you are, the person you want to be and they have grown with you, fallen with you and been through the process of climbing back up with you."It's all about when your partner is your family," he explains. - press notes

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
FOLLOWING SUPPORT SLOTS WITH EMELI SANDE, JAKE BUGG, JAMES BAY, ROY AYRES AND JAMES YORKSTON AND BEING DESCRIBED BY ROB FITZPATRICK IN THE GUARDIAN AS SOMEONE WHO,
"WRITES WONDERFUL HEARTFELT SONGS - STRUNG OUT IN THE ETHER SOMEWHERE BETWEEN TIM BUCKLEY AND MICHAEL KIWANUKA,"
'RETURN TO ME,' IS THE FIRST SINGLE FROM 'MILK WINDOWLIGHT,' THE BRAND-NEW PROJECT FROM SINGER, SONGWRITER AND PRODUCER JAKE MATTISON.
An artist formerly featured in The Guardian's F and M playlist and played on BBC6 music, BBC radio Manchester and Amazing radio, Alex Gallagher, founder and editor of Folk radio says Mattison is someone who makes an instant impression.
"His music is comforting and has a primal familiarity I just can't explain. This is music of the heart which carries an emotional punch, this man is something else, his music is gold dust."
The track was written at the beginning of 2019 shortly after Mattison had completed building his own recording studio and at a dark time personally when he had not written for a while and felt he would probably never write or record anything again.
"My wife and I built the studio in our house on her recommendation and when we finally finished it, I felt loads of pressure to produce something but I had a total block, probably from being overwhelmed by it."
The inspiration for 'Return to me,' came when a friend lent him a rack mounted Korg Triton and after messing about on it for a couple of days he wrote and produced the whole track.
"Limiting myself to the one piece of equipment pushed me to be more creative and then the song just grew and I added some guitar at the end. I didn't plan at first to release it, I was just so pleased to have created something start to finish."
The song is about the realisation of having a person so embedded in your life that they have helped to sculpt the person that you are, the person you want to be and they have grown with you, fallen with you and been through the process of climbing back up with you.
"It's all about when your partner is your family," he explains.
Mattison says that the desire to build his own studio came from feeling in the past that things he had achieved may have been by accident and that way if everything failed then he could tell himself that it
was never meant to be.
"I have wanted for years to build my own place and I built it because now there are no accidents. I'm in control of the whole process. I don't have to interpret my ideas to anyone and whatever I do is an opportunity for me to stand by it, learn, grow and develop."
'Return to me,' is set for release on March 21st, 2020 and the plan is to release a track every month, he is also arranging a live set and working with a friend on visuals for the songs.
