"making every murder to a high pitched podcast"
Oslo, Norway folk artist Simen Mitlid has a way with shaping memories, sounds, and acoustic patterns into beautiful soundscapes that feel like full fledged little sonic movies. Apparently, he also has a knack for describing his own work too. Just take a look at this description:
" ́Birds ́ is an indie ballad about black metal, fake IDs, growing up, dying, birthdays and birds. Written and recorded in my very small studio in Oslo with a view over a heavy traffic'd motorway."
Birds from the very onset, from the melodies that sing off the acoustic lines, lets you feel the sad, torn atmosphere. Mitlid's vocal aesthetic is built on words that feel auto-biographical and thus deeply personal. Whether they are or are not is immaterial, they feel like him slicing his gut open and that sense of emotional bloodletting spills on anyone who is listening. In the end, the sadness is relatable because sadness is relatable and Mitlid's melodies can penetrate even the thickest of skins.
