"in the night time or in the morn"
Jacksonport is the musical project of singer-songwriter John Fatum. In a past AP post we shared how he gave up his Brooklyn apartment in the spring of 2019 to travel and ostensibly live in his car lovingly named, Little Nipper, using what would of been his rent money to record and self produce. He is releasing a song every month in 2020 and the 5th single is called Patience. Sometimes the older I get I find myself getting more cold and cynical but as I played this song there was something in the acoustic rhythm and it's melodies that was drenched with longing and romance. As the song opens and breathes on beautiful pedal steel sounds and a rambling beat pushed by a wanderlust bass it pulled me out of any emotional morass I was stuck in. When Fatum's vocals come in and he sings, "a seagull woke me up this morning... called your name outside my door", I felt the romance of days long past.
Fatum has a wonderful voice and even more wonderful words that spills out of them . The poetry is beautifully vague and set in dreamy places as the chorus muses,
"Patience, you're a beautiful man- walking so slowly, a gun in each hand"
"Patience, tell me what do I do - I've killed all my darlings I've only got you"
And while the lyrics ask as many questions (in my curious mind) as paint pictures, the overall sound, tone, aesthetic has strong garden rock memories. This song has beautiful folk rock D.N.A thant bring to mind luminaries like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and other artists like Jackson Browne. Beautiful, Mr. Fatum, thank you for momentarily stripping off the cynical tar that attaches to me and allowing me to dream of better days past and ahead.
Jacksonport is John Fatum (singer-songwriter / guitar) and on Patience applauds the assistance and talents of Mike Siegel (Audio Engineering), Adam Brisbin (Electric guitar, Pedal Steel, Bass guitar), Julian Pollack (Keyboards), Phil Joly (mixing and additional production), Philip Shaw Bova (mastering), and Eliza Wallace (camera on official video)

Jacksonport is the solo imagination of musician John Fatum, named for the small town in Door County, Wisconsin where Fatum spent summers growing up. After giving up his Brooklyn, NY apartment in spring 2019, John has been on the road traveling around the United States in his car, Little Nipper, spending his would-be rent money on self- produced recordings. The recordings include synth playing by Julian Pollack (J3P0, The Lesson, Marcus Miller) and electric guitar by Adam Brisbin (Buck Meek, Sam Evian, Cass McCombs) and mixing by Grammy Award Winner Phil Joly (Electric Lady, Common, Lana Del Ray, Daft Punk, The Strokes).
