"I miss missing things"
Moonspeak is the brainchild of Robert Jallinder that he gave birth to after leaving the cinematic Swedish pop outfit Vita Bergen. Before Moonspeak was a concept, a creative embryo, Jallinder worked as a clinical psychologist. I am so absolutely enamored with Moonspeak's sound that I fear it might be unhealthy. Maybe Jallinder could offer his services to me. On second thought, I would rather play psychiatrist to him (even though I dropped out of college to be a rock star) so I could delve into his fertile, artful brain. Maybe I could learn how and why he is able to create such a lush, dense hyper realistic universe.
Moonspeak's latest Missing Things, (especially when the stacked layered vox becomes the most operatic) reminds me of the best of Electric Light Orchestra although Jallinder's aesthetic is much harder edged. What I love about Moonspeak's sound and Jallinder's songwriting is the over-reaching drama without feeling melodramatic. He is able to step into death's door without falling in, able to ascend into heavenly places without vanishing into the light. I thought of Bowie too, even though Jallinder's aesthetic is nothing like him. I think because there is a utter giving in to the artifice of art, of becoming someone else who is more than human within his performance art. I cannot adequately explain it but then, yeah, I dropped out of school for the rock star thing (and failed). Oddly enough I was majoring in psychology.
Moonspeak's debut album ”Nowanights” was produced by band member Jakob Kullberg and is set for an early fall release.
