"criminal... I'll suss you out"
Worchester, UK punk outfit, The Earnest Spears, open the pressure cooker of youthful UK discontent on their track Liar. Punk as protest music is protest music at it's most feral form and The Earnest Spears recall old school rabid punk in a pure way but shape it as their own. On Liar, the main jag hold a heavy metal sway and overall the song is a crushing car crash of metal, alt rock, surf punk, classic sort of Brit Punk and Goth rock all melted together in a potent, powerful wonderful bloody mess (and I mean mess in the best possible way).
Of the song the band says:
“’Liar’ is a collective result of our frustrations at the current backwards political system with young people in mind. There’s such a rich vs. poor mindset that is very apparent and we’ve had enough. We’re sick of fake news, lying politicians and the lack of opportunities making it impossible for young people to progress. Fuck the lies! FUCK THE TORIES!”

The Earnest Spears release ‘Liar’, a poignant call to arms surrounding the political injustices for the UK youth.
“There seems to be no stopping these exciting young musicians” – CLOUT
Following sold out shows across Birmingham and their hometown of Worcester and dates supporting The Wytches and Press Club, The Earnest Spears have spent the past few months transferring their riotous live performance onto record.
With one successful EP under their belts that had huge support from BBC Hereford and Worcester, ‘Liar’ is the first offering from the band this year and precedes a string of upcoming singles set for release later this year.
Powered by fuzzy, powerful guitarwork, the new effort from the band does well to articulately transfer justifiable feelings of anger and frustration into a sub-3-minute bundle of energy. Frontman Owen Davies’ vocals snarl with venom as he shouts ‘Liar!’ directly to those in power failing today’s people.
The Earnest Spears are 2020’s punk saviours and they’re not afraid to get their hands dirty by tackling complex and confrontational anarchist-political themes. Their new-wave, post-punk sounds have instantly connected with the masses and it’s clear that this is a band that are about to become a vital necessity in modern-day Britain.
Citing influences that range from Idles, Slaves and Lady Bird all the way to The Doors, The Police and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Earnest are redefining punk in an era where it feels absolutely necessary.
Their debut 5-track EP Sincere and Intense Conviction, was released late last year following alongside a sold-out date at Birmingham’s The Sunflower Lounge. The band had a UK tour and festival slots pencilled in before COVID-19 hit and are now gearing up for a 2021 live explosion across the UK, with some very exciting dates confirmed and awaiting announcement.
