"when I was so full of joy... I miss"
The Kerosene Hours is the darkly drawn musical project of Aaron Silverstein, an accomplished L.A. based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist as well as WGA writer, director /filmmaker. Listen to Silverstein's music like Romantic Fantastic and his in depth ability to tell a story (in whatever medium) is evident. In Romantic Fantastic, he creates a passionate dark atmosphere from the onset. Silverstein's vocal aesthetic carries the load here and is scowling and pained but the framework that voice lays in (which feels like an almost otherworldly take on proto punk / circa 78 to 82 / imaginings) a combination of punk-esque tom tom beats, double time synths, divergent guitar and sort of Goth new wave ascensions is truly compelling. It does, in fact, sound like a lost tape from another time, a fiery car crash of Kraftwerk and The Gories.
"We all wish we were something else, something more, but some days it's as simple as wishing we were more romantic, fantastic, and full of joy. This song is for the days and the weeks when getting out of bed is the hardest thing to do but staying in bed is its own quiet hell." - The Kerosene Hours
Some music today is bland, The Kerosene Hours is steeped in atmosphere, attitude and stories.
