"baby I've been waiting to say this just one more time"
J. Laser crafts a dense piece of electronic love on the track Blood Moon. There is an almost fable-esque thing happening here while still anchored in organic memories of a past relationship. The vox and the narrative stand out above the synthetic universe that is being created and I do mean created. You can almost feel primordial things happening here. There is also a heavy nod to the 80's, to the romance wave that was born during that decade. Blood Moon is unabashedly romantic and ultra poppy even if it is in surreal ways.
J. Laser is the music project of the L.A based prolific composer, producer and musician Jordan Lawlor and former member of the French dream pop band M83.

J. Laser is the moniker of multi-talented composer, producer and musician Jordan Lawlor. Based in Los Angeles and formerly a member of French dream pop outfit M83, J.Laser fuses modern electronic production and sonic manipulation techniques with classic song writing and an innate pop sensibility.
The result is irresistible, as confirmed by Buzzbands LA, who included J.Laser in their 2020 Artists to Watch feature, off the back of his debut, released at the end of last year. ‘Waves & Blades’ is a track that uses harmonic feedback from a stack of modular synthesizers, backed by a classic Krautrock rhythm, with urgent vocals decrying the dystopian climate of modern times. The follow up to this, new single ’Sunshine’, evokes what J.Laser describes as “an imagined alien utopia. The track’s distorted refrain hints at its darker roots, as J.Laser elaborates;
“The melody for this song came to me in a long era of depression, it was kind of a saccharine Doris Day jingle I would sarcastically sing to myself as things crumbled down around me, but as time went on it grew and became a sentiment I genuinely believed and used as a mantra to get through those trying times and eventually heal.”
Both tracks will feature on J.Laser’s debut EP, due for release this year. J.Laser played his debut headline show at Zebulon Cafe in Los Angeles on 27th January.
