"and I don't mean to say that life has lost it's meaning"
Dons Skiffle is a genre agnostic singer-songwriter based in Leeds, UK. In 2014 he put out a folk EP called "1967" and in 2019 the more synth based full length "Supermac Odyssey". His latest track Happy Chappy is a sort of bedroom folk indie affair about the ever increasing isolation in a rabidly connected social media world. Skiffle's lovely vocal aesthetic feels almost like a talk with a friend at a bar or over a neighborhood fence about real emotions, not the weather or sports scores. It is spartan, the sadly drawn narrative played out on acoustic guitar, sprinkles of keys and Skiffle's voice. Lovely stuff.
Skiffle shares:
"I wrote this song around the current climate of society. It's both a personal song and indirect reflection of the western world, influenced by social media making communication simpler but people feeling more isolated than ever before. We are aware of things that go on in the world, without being directly affected by them, and quick to show support or disagree with people and events from the comfort of our home whilst underlyingly knowing (and sometimes not) that our complacent manner is contributing towards a lonely almost selfish culture. I tried not to make it a heavily positive or negative reflection, simply a factual one."
