"jewels in the sky, it's all I know"
Listening to Darkest Eyes by Los Angeles based shoeglazed post punk band Mooncult and I couldn't help but think of the 80's and Sunset Blvd, of nights spent at lost haunts that are no longer there like the Starwood, like Tower Records. Maybe it is the Goth punk feel or remnants of proto punk (circa 79) or the romance of the the notes that hang in the air offset by the ferocity of the drumming or
Raven's beautiful standoff-ish vox set against darkly drawn guitar sustains. Whatever it is, it is beautifully evocative of a certain fertile time in music and it is a sound that is as potent as ever.
Darkest Eyes is from Mooncult's 2020 full length "Swallow Me Whole".
