God's Target is a song that at once feels like a punchy blend of 50's doo wop, current sock hop punk / surf punk and 80's Brit Pop like a car crash of The Righteous Brothers, Elvis Costello and Beach Goons (I had a couple of other bands in mind but I have stricken them from my comparative vernacular because of recent sexual allegations). I am loving it's pushed forward beat, charming poetic (and strange) lyrics, clean sort of power pop driven vocal aesthetic, and romantic sense about it all.
The Gooms are an L.A. based garage rock band and they are not afraid to amp their big sound with pretty background harmonies and an artful theatrical sense that shimmy and shakes and slow dances too.
Of the song, The Gooms said, "There is an absurdity to the idea that an omnipotent, ‘God-like’ character would care enough about the problems of one single person to target and ridicule them. This song is about those who blame anything or everyone instead of taking responsibility for their own choices. Also, it's got a pretty catchy chorus."
The Gooms debut album "Laugh" drops September 4 (2020) via Orchard.

The Gooms are a Los Angeles based garage rock band whose edgy and melodic sound derives from a die-hard love of surf, punk, jazz, and all that lies in between. Their off-kilter brand of noise rock coupled with catchy hooks and dirty instrumentation make them a force to be reckoned with. They won’t apologize for stirring a ruckus in your ear canals, but they will give you a hug.
