"somehow I hear all the poundin even though I'm just livin' in delay"
CGI Dog is the L.A. based project of producer/artist Chris Cubbison (aka Cubbi) and the noise infected electrowave, "Livin in Delay", heavy modulating synth chords and a pounding thump beat induces a sense of anxiety and was written while Cubbi was in quarantine in Hollywood, California and is directly informed by the noise of construction and hammering down his street.
"I had been playing around with on the powerful little Volca Keys unit. I wanted to encode that melody in a big drum sound that reminded me of the hammering noise coming from down the street. Finding a lot of inspiration these days in the sounds coming from outside."
AND MORE from Cubbi:
"This was the first new song I started while quarantining in my apartment in Hollywood, CA. After spending the first couple weeks of lockdown soaking in every news article there was to read - I realized that I was pushing myself past the point of staying informed and was doing some damage to myself. The song is examining a tendency in regards to "tuning out" or ignoring what's going on outside out of a sense of self-preservation - and how swinging too far in that direction is much much worse."
AND:
"We’re living through terrible times - no doubt - but if we choose to ignore the suffering in the world, we also ignore the very present fact that all of our health, fates, general well-being are connected. Do what you need to do to stay sane - but not at the expense of the collective well-being. Don't look away."
After a while the stepping synths and beat become a groove to enjoy, a chill resolution to the times we are unfortunately living in. It is a time to adapt and go around the obstacles in the way because you cannot break through them.
