"so I bought myself an electric replacement"
You always here about a band's evolution but how about revolution? As London boys, Ed, Tom, Dougal, Jake and Will aka Junodream, who have been mates and band mates (practically) since 14 years old, have been shaking things up as of late, changing artistically and widening their arsenal of sounds. This is beautifully evident on their latest offering called easy life. The track with it's rolling piano lines, heavy droning delicious bass, expansive fever dream-esque quality while still being very indie rock forward really digs it's barbs into you. When you hear the musical breaks with their sort of 90's post rock tones steeped in foggy psychedelia and divergent lead work you might (like I did) also feel a bit of 1995 Radiohead tugs. How fucking lovely is that?
Junodream offers, “‘easy life’ is fundamentally about laziness and insecurity. Actively alienating yourself from the real world. Social exhaustion and anxiety can drive people online and there’s a safety in doing that, although you can inadvertently alienate yourself from the real world. You put on a different skin online and easy validation will follow if you’re willing to betray reality. But the music has a darker undertone to it. How easy do you want it to be, before it consumes you completely?”

We are Junodream aka Ed, Tom, Dougal, Jake and Will. You could pigeon-hole us as South London newcomers, but really we aren’t all from the same place and we aren’t new. We met at school when we were fourteen, formed a band and spent our teens travelling up and down the country playing shows - some empty, others less empty. This was not the chance encounter of five insanely talented boys brought together by ‘destiny’: we weren’t good at the start (who is?), but we persisted, fuelled by friendship and delusion.
In summer 2017, we were all in Ed’s attic, listening to records and writing songs. Moral was low: we weren’t where we’d thought we’d be, and worst of all, we’d didn’t like our own music. It was time to pack it in… for two weeks. Naturally, we all came crawling back to each other and pressed the reset button. Out of the ashes of failure, Junodream was born.
What’s different? Junodream is not built upon vain dreams of being the biggest band in the world. Sure, we want our music to be heard by people from all walks of life. Ultimately, we want to play music that’s true to us, to keep challenging ourselves creatively, to keep improving, and to just keep going. After all, it’s what gives us most joy in the world.
We bought a few microphones and spent six months recording in a cottage in the middle of nowhere. Intimacy, fresh air, and a decent dose of isolation cemented our friendship even more. Taking inspiration from 90s alt-rock artists (Beck, BJTM, Spiritualized, you name it), our songs all tread along the fine line between melancholy and optimism.
The music is representative of our personalities. We’re all introverted and deeply cynical, a reflection of Britain’s self-deprecating humour. But we’re also very hopeful. We want to find the romance/humour in the most trivial scenarios, be it an argument in the car (Terrible Things), or getting barged in a nightclub and being too afraid to do anything about it (Limiter). There’s a whole universe to explore in these moments.
