"welcome the sky as you open your heart"
ESCHES, the musical moniker of German-born vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Robert Summerfield, who has roots spread out across the upper peninsula of Michigan and the greater Chicago area, on his latest soul lifting "Levitate Us", builds a lush planet with tactile sounds of emotional strata orbiting in space. His universe building is exquisitely spartan allowing each element to firmly take root, especially his vocal croon, deeply resonant and moving, embracing us.
He talks about this universe building, the process of planning but being open to improvisation and taking chances:
"'Levitate Us' has this pull to it - musically and lyrically, it's heading somewhere, constantly. I love the fact that it has these quirky little nuances, like rhythmic layers that almost sound like an animal trying to break free, and multiple sonic worlds just melting together. The song was developed in three steps - I wrote it on a basic instrumental I produced, then OSIVE, Sixtus Preiss and I had these super intense sessions in Vienna, then we finished it by just sending things around. Brave new world, so to speak. I have the feeling this process definitely worked for the track - it's about negotiating distance, and this naive sort of honesty. I added the Rhodes in the very end, it's great when sounds and lyrics resonate together as one." - ESCHES
ESCHES' gravitational pull on "Levitate Us" has to do with it's spatial nature and absolute lush intimate emotionality bringing in cross generational tenets of soul and R&B flushed with jazz indie affections.
