"to dream of orange days"
Charlottesville, VA based dream pop / indie rock band Stray Fossa always transport me. Their overarching sound, rich and always possessing tender warm poetry effusively erupts with dramatic downbeats and sustained ascensions. Throughout the quiet and not so quiet turmoil, their vocal aesthetic pushes in a hushed dense way is a mixture of ups and downs.
"Orange Days" from their debut full length "With You For Ever" is dynamic in it's wanderlust and Polaroid visions. I usually try to listen to songs with my eyes closed (especially when first listening via the Official Video) but that was not the case here and, anyway, watching in concert with the imagery feels so right. The band shares:
[This track took on a whole new life when film director Gary Templeton gave us permission to use his short film – "The Remarkable Riderless Runaway Tricycle" (1982) – as the official music video for the song. "Orange Days" was written by our drummer/producer/brother, Will, and marks the second single off of our debut LP, With You For Ever. Cover art for the album was designed by Chyrum Lambert (e.g. Grizzly Bear, Ought). We're stoked to share this one.]
Gary Templeton's short film, "The Remarkable Riderless Runaway Tricycle", infused with a 70's nostalgia and maybe a little nod to "ET, the Extraterrestrial" and produced the same year (1982) is a little piece of magic with the filmic DNA of classics like Albert Lamorisse's 1956 French fantasy "The Red Balloon" and "Bicycle Thieves" (1948) by Italian neorealist Vittorio De Sica. Stray Fossa's dreamy fazed innocence of "Orange Days" drops into the youthful magic perfectly.
