As I listen to the sonic flowing river that is "The Woods" by Zauso, the solo project of Seattle-based musician Zach Horton, I think of the beauty of disparate parts coming together, the intrinsic complexities of the heart and of art. There is tension throughout, a never ending tension built with pushing bass lines, falling guitar notes and somber beautiful keys. Horton's vocal aesthetic has an internal quality with hard edges revealing themselves in the lower registers, part lilt and grit. Electric guitar notes bend and counterpoise with all the sounds in total. It is at once so pretty but also anxiety inducing (in a way) as more layers fold in until you are left with cinematic chaos.
Horton shares: "Written after a difficult breakup, 'The Woods' explores the tension between a desperate instinct to coax one’s partner through the dangerous forest of their own mind, while battling with the knowledge that they are the only one who can truly guide themselves to safety."
The evocative Official Video is directed by Arden Grier with stunning cinematography done by Jordan McGrath.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
Born and raised among the evergreens and the cold, rocky beaches of the Pacific Northwest, Zach Horton was 8 when his grandfather gave him his first guitar, and 12 when he wrote his first song. He honed his voice by recording to an old cassette machine and listening to the tapes on repeat. Blending elements of indie rock, folk, and modern Americana, Zach uses lush guitars, sparkling keyboards, and simple, driving beats to support his raw, earthy vocals on his solo project, "Zauso".
