"you never look into my eyes when you lie to me..."
Sometimes when a song submission has an accompanying Official Video I sort of sigh. A lot of times they end up detracting form the song and, quite frankly, the movies in my head are usually more interesting. That being said, the video for Grady Strange's potent psych 'gangster' punk "Karma's A Gun" plays like a mini-movie. Written and directed by Strange himself and inspired by The Sopranos and GoodFellas, with narrations dropping in moving the story forward in wonderfully charming, comedic ways. This is a video that I gleefully shared with a number of friends and family and is seriously more engaging and funny than the last handful of disappointing full fledged comedic movies that I have seen. All the elements, the actors, cinematography / editing by Michael Leary, the look, feel and pacing is pitch perfect. As a song, "Karma's A Gun" kills with it's raw nature and exquisite nuances like the staggered starts, ramping tempo swaps, springy reverb psychedelia, post punk revelry and an inspired vocal aesthetic. I feel tinges of Ty Segall, The Babies and even Richard Hell and the Voidoids.

This song is about being frustrated with the system. I recorded it to a 4 track tape player in my kitchen. It is the first single off of my debut record, "Getting Stranger" out 7/21 on Perpetual Doom.
