Gumiho and the smashing, crashing FU of "Hey! You!"

"Hey! You!" by Gumiho may not be the best thing to come out of Seoul, South Korea right now because it is the kind of punk song that will instigate furious moshing and that is hard to do while staying six feet apart (just keep your mask on). That being said, it is the kind of blend of skater punk, old school punk and more that is not concerned with intricacies, just hammering rock. With a chorus prog that is as classic as rock itself that begs you to sing along, "Hey! You! Hey! No one said that, motherfucker!" It is pile driving banger that pays homage to what came before. Inexplicably, Nirvana even pops up momentarily with a couple of measures of what is seemingly or spot-onily "Rape Me" and it doesn't matter because this kind of punk is winking at you while it smiles and batters you over the head at the same time. 

The song is the first release from Gumiho's self-titled EP which you can pre-order at their Bandcamp page. In the end, "Hey! You!" is a relationship gone sour song, "I don’t care if you loved me like a video game I gave you all the trust. You had to use it against me. This love game sucks so much. I wanna get out of here. Was that all fucking lie?" sings lead singer Caspin. It feels like the youthful glorious rebellion that we have all felt at one time. I'm going to play it loud and knock over some furniture.
