"I've seen a god in your eyes..."
Listen to the sadly haunted guitar notes falling and then turn sideways, it's offset beauty may feel comfortable and a bit nostalgic. When Dutch singer songwriter Ismena softly wails "I've seen a god in your eyes feeding off of your heart" her vocal aesthetic, beautiful but casting sad shadows of concern and dark disturbances turn darker, "I've seen a hell across the street where I used to live... heaven is a long way from home in the end". The song "All I want" grows in it's heaviness while still eclipsing a veiled beauty in the droning guitar strains. The textured bass is perfectly cast and bolsters the power with the drums that anchor the imploding musical narrative deeply in the familial terra firma.
Press notes share:
[‘All I Want’ is the first of three singles Dutch singer-songwriter Ismena is releasing in anticipation of her debut full-length ‘Until We Part’ (November 2021). Recorded at Vuurland by veteran producer Erny Green and mastered by Martijn Groeneveld (Blaudzun, John Coffey, Dotan), Until We Part captures Ismena and her band’s artistic fulfillment after two promising, well-received e.p.’s.
In her songs, Ismena marries dark, brooding romanticism with hopeful, brighter notes in both music and lyrics. ‘All I Want’, an intimate and melancholic tale of loss and hope, set to a background of warm, yet unsettling sounds, is no exception. It sets the tone for the next two singles and the forthcoming album.]
I am loving the sounds, dark and foreboding and Ismena's vocal characteristic, darkly beautiful.
