The Municipality and the beautiful unease of "Endless Loop" (Official Video)

 

"whatever happened to us?"

There is a beautiful unease throughout "Endless Loop" by The Municipality, the cagey experimental project by Canadian composer/producer Eric Hogg. The intriguing (maybe cut and pasted) erratic beat structure is alluring, evocative of the emotional earth shifting beneath your feet. When droning synths streak by like ufos and Hogg's captivating vocal aesthetic, with layers of self harmonies adding artistic oomph, turns lyrics that suggest a broken future there is a sense that Hogg is speaking for all of us, not just lamenting a relationship. Trippy and jangly lines build and swirl as the song gets darker and more dangerous.

"Song centered around an up-tempo break beat collage, synths posing as guitars, guitars posing as synths, high energy vocals, some cool syncopation going on in the rhythm department."

The Official Video that pulsates on repeating imagery is interesting but might make some of you nauseous, sometimes the brain can perceive such imagery as motion sickness so take care as you watch.
