"maybe I need something I've never had..."
trubbleboy burns in the Arizona sun and his debut single "Screwed" is a dynamic piece of angsty art pop / indie rock that moves (sometimes) in a really commercially pop forward way like the 'slide' that boy bands do on slick stages. There is also a sense of rabid emo that peaks in and inward. trubbleboy is the musical project, the moniker of Samuel Braddy and press notes indicate that he was born into a polygamist cult ('escaping in the middle of the night') and while that might sound like the latest pitch for a new TLC series, it brings to mind a dozen questions that might need to be answered in the future.
Of "Screwed", Samuel shares:
"Screwed is about the feeling of defeat that comes with being a lost cause. There’s no real solution to the torment of being a human, but it’s enough relief to say that it doesn’t matter anyway. This song was the most cathartic release of mental frustration, and candy to my existence."
A broad sense of nihilism does run through the track from the very beginning within the lush pop chorus that starts the track to the bouncy verses (like dour hip hop) pushing the groove. The drum highlights and evocative piano melodies cut through what is essentially a sad core passion play. Samuel has a killer vocal aesthetic and he can effortlessly twist two or three genres into one. His aesthetic like a bitter lemon twist feels like the kind of soulful ennui of youth when you think too much about all the pain in the world. It is a hard thing to realize and something you have to push in the back of your mind to survive at all.

Born into a polygamist cult and then escaping in the middle of the night, may sound like the plot to a terrible B-Horror movie. But in the case of Samuel Braddy, aka, trubbleboy - this is factually how his childhood began.
Finding an outlet in his teen years through music, his songs connect with any of us who ever felt out of place, forgotten, or perhaps a little disillusioned, with the state of the world we inherited.
trubbleboy’s debut single “Screwed” marries Motown grooves with cynical nursery rhymes. A combo that's sure to win over any Alternative fan's heart. Iggy Pop meets The 1975 - if you can picture that?
Emerging from the deadly calm of the Arizona desert, trubbleboy's journey has just begun, writing songs that come from painful experience. You won't want to miss this one.
