"never was this crazy ever since you made me head over the soles of my shoes..."
The effervescent love (or love lost) drenched "So Long" by Sydney based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer Tim Ayre is so utterly delicious and lush in it's artistically crafted, dynamic pop bop that you could only hope and pray that it is the soundtrack for you as you move throughout your day. The dominant piano downbeats and bass lines, alone, feels like Gene Kelly dancing and the power pop glitter of the double lead lines have a glam persona. Ayre's lovely vocal aesthetic and unabashed pop stance works and the inclusion of a kind of baroque-esque psychedelic lounge rock coda feels stunningly dreamy.
"So Long" is from Ayre's upcoming EP Modern Life out June 16 via Kitsuné Musique.
Tim Ayre released his self-titled debut solo EP in November 2019 on Kitsuné Musique. Recorded in a Melbourne home studio, it was released to wide acclaim and has since received over 1.24 million streams and seen overwhelmingly positive coverage from Triple J, KCRW, BBC1xtra, Indie Shuffle, Earmilk and The Line Of Best Fit. He’s also had support from tastemakers in the space such as Roosevelt, Folamour and Touch Sensitive.
Working with mostly analogue instruments and writing, recording everything himself since his high school years - Tim's first project Tim & Jean thrust him into the nation's spotlight and on tour with Moby before he could enter a licensed venue. Now some years later, that creative approach has only been refined and the results are a unique and infectious take on pop music.
