Oklahoma based PawPaw Rod's revelatory psych hop "Glass House" is so densely packed while (oddly enough) feeling spartan that you will hear delicious flavors and elements each and every time you listen. The deep soul groove, bass infused and floating on organ spiced keys rides on a sample that plays like a repetitive kids funky tug at your t-shirt, "Know everything's, know everything's" feels both nostalgic and evocative of 70's soul. PawPaw Rod's vocal aesthetic is fresh and utterly self aware with confidence and an almost brazen sense of cool that cannot be learned, it is innate and beautiful. When the bridge drops in you get a sage like presence reminiscent of Stevie Wonder (circa Songs In the Key of Life) and the keys gaining a voice (vocoder or not) during the coda is sublime.
Of the song PawPaw Rod shares:
"My father was in the military, so I grew up all over the place, from Washington to Oklahoma. The people in those places didn’t always look like us. I had to adapt to new people, new situations. Learn how to read the room, figure out a place for myself. Ear hustling.
My new song 'Glass House' is about accepting what you can and can’t change about your situation, and finding peace in that. Hopefully things are starting to get back to some version of normal soon. I want 'Glass House' to be our anthem—playing in your head, your homes, and your favorite places when you’re able to hug, dance, drink, and sing again with the people you love. Thank you for being here with me now."

“Glass House” is PawPaw Rod’s follow-up to “HIT EM WHERE IT HURTS”, the Oklahoman’s debut blend of rap and 60s soul that spent weeks at the top of the Spotify Viral charts and notched over 20 million plays across all digital platforms. “Glass House” is another effortless groove that combines hard nosed Bill Withers-like wisdom with hip-hop swagger and 70s psychedelia. “It’s about choosing to accept that some things are out of our control,” says PawPaw Rod. The record arrives May 20 via Godmode, the LA-based label and production team behind artists such as Channel Tres, Yaeji, and JPEGMAFIA.
