"if you need loyalty and glue, then I can paste it up for you..."
The artfully diverse Grady Strange (the solo project of Grady Wenrich, Mackenzie Howe & friends) just released their debut record "Getting Stranger" (via Perpetual Doom) and in celebration you can revel in the stripped down emotional edges of "Colorful Collage". It is undoubtedly the most stripped down I have heard Grady and while it is mostly acoustic, the urgency and palm muted rhythm almost makes you imagine it electric. Grady's vocal aesthetic here is somber and as the words tumble out quickly like lucky charms cereal falling into a favorite bowl, the lyrical content sometimes feels like sweet milk soured.
Of the track Grady shares:
"This song is about falling for someone before you totally know them, and letting them know you'll be around waiting. I recorded it to my 4 track cassette player in my kitchen."
Along the wait and the resolute feeling of longing on hold, there are bright spots fueled by synths that feel like rays of flutes or mellotron-ish. It makes the somber a bit more sweet and the candor just a bit candy coated in the best way.

Grady Strange is the solo music mission of Grady Wenrich, along with help from his partner Mackenzie Howe aka Pet Dress, their dog Dolly Parton, and friends. Based out of LA, some call it "saltwater cowgirl rocknroll", others call it an honest attempt. And what else can we do these days? The world is dying and giving you all that it can so you can have a good time. Don't let it down.
