"where'd all the good girls go?"
The full throttle rock of "Good Girls" by Aussie rockers Smoking Martha will likely make you step on the accelerator or hold up devil signs or head bang or maybe even raise an eyebrow (in a good way). The sound pushes some nostalgia buttons of past metal or hair metal bands as well as sinewy post punk (like Queens of the Stone Age) but there is a sense of compressed glam pop at least faintly in this sound. It is like an amalgam of classic bands like Poison, Tigertailz and (I flashed on) German Metal band Warlock with a sprinkling of glam like say Scissors Sister (just a few glitter sparkles). Now mind you this feeling I am getting (a good one) is based on "Good Girls" not Smoking Martha's body of work.
I am digging the sound as I sip the Kool Aid and Tasha's vocal aesthetic here, husky and sometimes almost otherworldly is incredibly engaging and even androgynous in it's snarl and yelping sultriness.
Drink up.
