Brixton (UK) birthed Average Life Complaints started over what front man Charlie Weight describes as a shared "mutual hatred of and shared anxiety about the way modern society is heading and the way in which it functions". I can't personally think of a better reason to start a band and by the sound of it we are all the better for it as the aforementioned Charlie Weight (lead vocals/guitar) as well as Albert Dury (bass), Louis Bramwells (guitar/vocals) and George Greenhalgh (drums) are certainly stirring things up.
Take the pummeling punkery of "Wealth Gap" with a thick driving bass line, punched up drums, strident guitar screams that vacillate between horror pop sounds and screaming Italian taxis building a cooly dark framework for Weights sardonic vocal aesthetic that gleefully skewers social media and the resulting infection of false lives, the sick deterioration between the haves and the have nots and devolution of society tik toking away in front of us.
Of the track, Weight says: “The lyrics discuss the unrealistic standards of wealth and beauty that can be seen today across social media and how these standards affect both people’s mental health and our society as a whole.”
Love ALC's sound, their propensity for politico punk and their fueled desire to comment on the ills of life as they see it. Informed by artists like Talking Heads, Suburban Lawns (I am impressed they even know about them), The Teardrop Explodes and Gang of Four they are exhibiting the same musical nucleic acid in their sounds. Amazing.

The four-piece formed at the beginning of the year in Brixton, over what frontman Charlie Weight describes as “a mutual hatred of and shared anxiety about the way modern society is heading and the way in which it functions”.
Like many people, Charlie was furloughed during lockdown and, after his previous band fell apart, he built a home studio to fill his time and keep himself sane. It was there where the band were able to start collating their feelings of social disillusionment and political bemusement into a well-crafted world of post-punk dystopia, taking inspiration from the likes of Talking Heads, Suburban Lawns, The Teardrop Explodes and Gang Of Four.
Their first offering is the pulsating ‘Wealth Gap’, a sharp-toothed take on modern life that takes a scathing look at perceived success through the looking glass of social media and reality TV.
