"wait a minute... where in hell did time just go?"
"Bad Drunk" by New York based (by way of North Carolina and Texas) Night Spins paints a dicey picture of lost weekends (or at least minutes) to the time traveling results of one too may intoxicants. Of bloody knuckles, wasted nights that bleed into dreary mornings and self loathing too. You might have been there before, maybe I have been too. I love the sideways sound, the pounding downbeats and penetrating lead lines (love the fucking tones here) that move in and around the wailing vox and marry the vocal melodies too. The broken musical pieces are stuffed together with dire and awesome art punk aplomb and the guttural vocal aesthetic and choppy musical narrative is so incredibly dynamic. Night Spins seems to know when less is more and I truly appreciate that. Modest Mouse did come to mind as did The Strokes for some odd reason and hints of pop rock, art rock indie artists past and present like Television and Arctic Monkeys and Talking Heads or maybe it would be easier to say that their sound is an enticing amalgam of all those bands (or any artist that punches and swings in dramatic and divergent ways). I also love the raucous theatricality and self deprecating humor inherent in looking at the darkness in things and reflecting on it.
Born out of the American South, the first seeds for the group were planted when Josh Brocki and Manquillian Minniefee started messing around on guitar in high school down in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Fast forward to 2014: Josh and Manq, now living in Brooklyn, joined forces with Dallas, Texas-hailing Jesse Starr and Andrew "Ace" Jernigan to create Night Spins (FKA The Boobies).

Garage pop laced with New York City grit, dark humor, and rock 'n' roll attitude.
Calling upon their experience working at burlesque clubs, circus shows, and raunchy variety clubs across NYC, the four-piece band melds its theatrical background with influences like Iggy Pop, Modest Mouse, and David Byrne for an unrivaled—and must-see—display of contemporary showmanship. So what does that sound like? Sizzling riffs, earworm hooks, raw vocals—all imbued with a Southern-bred shake of the supernatural. Fans who go to see Night Spins know one thing: They're gonna get a show. Night Spins have played with Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Big Thief, Low Cut Connie and Brass Against to name a few.
