"can't you see my heart's breaking in two..."
The dense synth arpeggio'd "Pray" is downright delicious in the way it's layers extend over each other and push memory buttons of nostalgic days gone by while, at the same time, pushing through the translucent membrane of the future. The forward kind of late 70's Kraftwerk-ian tones mixed with a sort of 80's disco jam with a vocal aesthetic somewhere between 80's Martin Fry (ABC) and David Bowie or a combination of both creates a whirlwind of dark pop sensations. Also, feeling a vibrant sort of goth pop meets industrial slam. It all mixes together, somehow in an effortless, fluid life and dance affirming way.
This divergent duo based out of Canada have been pushing boundaries since 2014 blending genres into distinct soundscapes that cast imagery in your head. More to come.

It’s not every day that a long-dormant experimental noise project reappears as an elite electronic-pop outfit intent on burrowing into your subconscious and unearthing deep-seated memories of a time when we could congregate freely without worry.
In 2014, the duo known as Allegories began to experiment across genres, melding eclectic soundscapes with pop inclinations. Gathering further inspiration from DJing house and hip-hop nights around town, Allegories went onto create electronic music that shifts throughout the over/underground spectrum.
Case in point is the LCD-illuminated “Pray,” which reaches its strobe-lit fever pitch as the song’s most serious sentiment is delivered – “can’t you see my heart is breaking in two!” – in a bizarre, over-the-top, pitch-shifted exhortation that would make Future Islands’ Sam T. Herring proud.
Allegories’ music is at once earnest and abstract, tricking listeners into the thought that they might be hearing straightforward dance music before the duo’s inherent eccentricities shift interpretation. They deliver unguarded ballads as effortlessly as they develop layers of cut up samples reaching into the worlds of IDM and psychedelia.
After spending the better part of a decade winnowing down some 35 song ideas, the duo were willing to wait a little longer to secure the expert mastering services of Junior Boys’ ever-busy Jeremy Greenspan.
