Step into the beauty and the grandeur of "November" by Reykjavik, Iceland based folk singer-songwriter Svavar Knútur and you will undoubtedly be moved, swept away, edged into cinematic places in your mind. It is so inclusive in it's art that I cannot imagine anyone hearing it and not liking it and while Knútur may be defined by some as a folk singer songwriter, "November", expertly sweeps into other genre's. For one thing, it swims in the fringes of classic 70's psychedlia which itself tended to dip into classical shapes as well. Knútur has a commanding voice, it is gorgeous without feeling over theatrical, his aesthetic is drenched with a tender, earnest quality while pitch perfect. I tend to like less perfect voices because those kinds of voices seem to somehow feel more vulnerable but Knútur's aesthetic still feels captivatingly emotional. The journey of this song, the narrative has it's fingers in the stuff of broad stories of longing, love, of battles galore even and it brilliantly shifts in orchestral places and even into sort of progressively laced indie rock. Knútur has crafted a lot of feelings in his storytelling that brought to mind an amalgam of things that feel wanderlustful, beautifully elusive and unmistakably hopeful. Somehow I thought of Comus, Arcade Fire, Simon and Garfunkel, Death Cab For Cutie, Tim Burton, Lord of the Rings and Autumn all distilled into the something legendary.

Svavar Knútur returns with his new album "Ahoy! Side A". The title already indicates it. The five songs written in 2017 and 2018 form the first half of his new double album, which will be released next year with a sound that will surprise his fans.
One song is in the focus of this release, which will surprise with its indie rock and a determined, overflowing energy: The opener "The Hurting". Powerful and with a stoic-pounding beat, that is how we have rarely heard Svavar Knútur. In addition to the five new songs, which were created in 2017 and 2018, new recordings of four old songs will be released.
The Icelandic singer / songwriter and entertainer Svavar Knútur is a musician with countless facets, preferring to name his genre Indie Nordic Folk Pop (INFP). He manages with an ease and exuberant sympathy to enchant and enthrall every audience from the first moment. He presents his songs alongside a spread of absurd stories and meanderings, seasoned with a good dose of black Icelandic humor.
“This man from Iceland embodies everything a perfect entertainer should be: he is a true character, straightforward with a pure and bright personality, whose genuine and unpretentious air goes above and beyond the mundane.” - Marc-Stefan Andres (u.a. Zeit, SZ, Brandeins)
Svavar Knutur’s performances have been widely praised, in both the Icelandic and the international press. The German edition of Rolling Stone noted Svavar’s exceptional storytelling, charismatic stage presence and his “soft cotton, Nordic folk reverie”. Brisbane’s Rave magazine also described the young troubadour as having “swoon-worthy vocals” complimenting the “beautiful simplicity and raw emotion of his songs”. Influenced by such songwriters as Nick Drake, Kris Kristofferson and Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Svavar has developed his own style.
