"You've put up with so much this year..."
The sheer explosion of fun on "Grumpy Days" by London based Lonely Gimmick the 'alter ego' of anonymous multi-instrumentalist, singer songwriter, DIY producer Max Pow is pure dance feverish escapism. It is as if you took the percussive funky sexiness of Prince and combined it somehow with Alex G (if he wasn't so inwardly sad all the time). All this and "Grumpy Days" also has the universal appeal / sweetness of a Mentos commercial. I mean that as a total compliment. As Lonely Gimmick, the mystery behind Max Pow (they, them) is purposeful. Max works everything from the top down, self recording, self producing and basically playing or creating everything you hear track to track though he is not opposed to bringing in a collaborator, a partner in time if they need to. For this track all the drums and percussion were recorded at "Crow’s Nest Studios" in London by the very accomplished Olly Betts (drummer of "The Duke Spirit") who also took the reins on mixing and mastering duties
Max wants the Lonely Gimmick project to be solely about the music and what their music makes you feel as opposed the their identity, sexual indemnity, political viewpoint, etc. etc. Once upon a time that is what music was solely about (I think). Anyway, I dig the shapes, the funk and the sweetness.

Lonely Gimmick is the alter ego of Max Pow, an anonymous multi-instrumentalist musical artist. Both these names are pseudonyms to hide the artist's real identity. "Hip Hop", "Techno", "Lofi", "Indie", "Rock", "Punk", "Bedroom Pop", Lonely Gimmick is a jack of all genres master of all. Their work is self recorded, self produced, with the vast majority of the instruments featured on each track played by the artist. LG wants their music to speak for itself and be nothing more than music. This is not about identity politics. It is not about what they look like, what clothes they wear, their past, their gender, their sexuality or their race. LG wants to share their music with the world and hopes people enjoy it as much as LG enjoys making it.
