"wearing a black turtleneck like armor..."
There is something about online collaborations between artists via great distances that excites me. And when the connections are unexpected or sort of brought together by sheer serendipity it feels more magical. Maybe it feels special because my youth was spent without smart phones and without the internet. The psychedelic indie rock synth pop-esque "The Stars Would Explode" by Bristol Bay (Alaska) based The Meskimo (Ian Ballard) and Howe from Northern California who lent her captivating voice and dreamy lyrics is one such magical collab.
The mellow Farfisa-esque keys, acoustic guitar, 80's toned beats, deep bass synths and other more piano embellishments provide a framework that exists between somewhere baroque pop and art rock sounds. There is a tinge of hazy bohemian psych folk sensations within Howe's brassy intimate croon. There is another characteristic to her lilt and sometimes growl that is difficult to define but like an amalgam of Hope Sandoval, Fiona Apple and Natalie Merchant it is one that is magnetic.
I am digging the divergent sound here and hope this artistic kismet between these two is not a one time thing.

The night The Meskimo was born along the shores of the Bristol Bay, the universe greeted him with some of its best vibes, the Aurora Borealis. A magnificent spectrum of wonder and awe. Now, as he roams hither and yon across the Great Plains of North America, The Meskimo feels it is time to return the favor. After years of gathering some of the best vibes hidden in this realm, he is sharing them with you. Please enjoy thoroughly and do not restrict any movement the vibrations compel you to make. This is meant to inspire, and after ingestion, introspection impels you to share what you have experienced. Spread the vibes far and wide!

A singer, songwriter, and producer based in Northern California. My name, Howe, is in honor of the suffragette Julia Ward Howe. With everything I create, I hope to echo out the power of femininity. My work usually floats between indie pop and electro-pop, but I like to use whatever sounds most compels me to emote. At my core, I want to connect- to you- and to empower both others and myself to feel, to question, and to celebrate. Thanks for listening, and thanks for visiting one of my virtual tree forts. Feel free to stay awhile, or visit one of my other virtual tree forts (aka Instagram or any streaming service). I look forward to seeing you there!
