Michael Sanders and the pristine dreaminess of "Riding On The Valley"

"Riding On The Valley" by Brooklyn bred, Austin based singer songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Michael Sanders is the third and final single promoting his debut solo album "While I'm Still Young" and, in fact, the title exists in this song as a refrain. It is the second track I have delved into, the first examination of Sander's aesthetic you can find here: [Michael Sanders and the surreal time traveling wonder of "Miss Lady"] and I hope you check it out. 

Once again, Sanders strays away from current pop conventions, tropes and delivers a purely wrought sound that, to me, has the breath and scope of the storytelling rock of the 70's (primarily) and evocative bands in the 80's. The sound here is both raw and lush. I really like how Sanders's pushes his voice on this track "because the ride is over" while also getting dreamily lush "take all you need from me". The pristine ascensions, the sense of drama and sonic imagery made me flash on a band like Tears For Fears (Songs from the Big Chair - 1985). About the song, Sanders shares:

"This song is equally about sex, the feeling of losing two years of life to a pandemic, and leaving Brooklyn to move to Austin."

Listening to Michael Sanders is stepping into an indie rock world that doesn't exist in a specific point in time. Michael Sanders provides vocals, guitars, bass, synth, organ, samples with drums provided by Danyal Ince.
