No Swoon and the hard edged illusionary sweep of "Wait To See" (Official Lyric Video)

 

"you knew it then / where you longed to be / maybe I forgot / maybe just faintly..."

I am, hands down, a sucker for big bass sounds (hence my adoration for Death from Above 1979) and the lush and edgy bass bottom of "Wait To See" by L.A. based post punk / alt pop duo No Swoon is breathtaking right from the onset. Riding on a forward smashed beat, droning synth sounds, and floating guitar patterns, Tasha Abbott's vocal sound as part of the spatial atmosphere builds. There are hard surreal eruptions of synth arpeggios and guitar, key layers and as mixed by Chris Coady (Beach House, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) the feeling is less shoegaze than sort of space rockian indie. Digging the harder edges and drum beat drive here. The dream pop genre as evocative as it is can somehow tend to feel a bit too serene and or melancholy but here the beauty and drama punches harder.

"Wait to See" is the 3rd single from No Swoon's upcoming sophomore record "Take Your Time" dropping on April 8th, 2022. No Swoon is comprised of vocalist/guitarist Tasha Abbott and bassist/keyboardist Zack Nestel-Patt.
