"great reigns of wasted youth..."
Reykjavik Kids is the cross Atlantic collaboration of Los Angeles based guitarist / vocalist Scott Munro and Newcastle (UK) guitarist / synth player Paul Tissington. The pummeling full throttle post punkery of "Great Reigns" from their upcoming EP "Tonight Is The Day", dropping in March (2022) move on chunky progressive guitar shapes, wailing raucous vox, shifting pumping bass lines and potent drums. The interwoven lead guitar work in concert with the vocal melodies and bass lines is super jammy and for me sort of screams potent 90's rock, post punk attitudes like a collision of bands like The Alarm, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cult and U2.
Surprisingly the angst ridden fury here is not about breaking down political / social barriers but more personal battles about youthful dreams being muted by other things. The duo share:
"Great Reigns is a song about a period of our youth when weed ruled all. We wasted too much time stoned on the couch, and wanted to break the cycle, but too uninspired to do anything productive...just watching daytime TV. Good times actually"
Truly digging the power here that feels so hard even when the song momentarily falls away in dreamy ways.

Reykjavik Kids formed in Newcastle upon Tyne, after a heavy weekend session in 2015 where Paul Tissington and Scott Munro were living.
Their sound features dark, scathing guitar lines blended with budget synths and introspective lyrics. Their 1st demos found their way to boutique London based label Tigre Fair who released their debut eponymous single on 12" vinyl for Record Store Day 2015 and their music has since received support from CLASH, and BBC Introducing in UK.
They took their name after reading a story on an influx of youth to Iceland's capital post-WWII, which resonated with their dark but forward looking sound.
Now residing in 2 countries (with guitarist/vocalist Scott Munro in Los Angeles and guitarist/synth player Paul Tissington in Newcastle).
