"telling me that I should be sad, that's what I am all I'll ever be..."
The Sheeps are a group (of two) comprised of Matt Clayton and Brendan Ferguson Moore from Durham, North Carolina and they craft songs that slip easily under your skin. I like their sounds because they float and sink in surprising ways. I remember writing about them last year and I described their song "Post in D" as feeling "like a Mentos commercial written by Sparklehorse" and, of course, I meant that as the ultimate compliment.
The second single "Dawnwalking" off their upcoming album, "Get Busy", is a dreamy affair that has a surreal 50's Americana pop meets 60's Brit pop sensibility filtered through a John Water's film. The Sheeps say "it's a song about struggles with depression and invalidation, and working towards acceptance". The Sheeps' sound here feels stoically sweet and tender while at the same time feeling as if the characters here are imprisoned in a melancholy of their own making. Somehow sad songs make me feel better and anyway, I love this dance.
