"when did I become so petty or have I always been this way..."
Sharkorama, the name conjures up surf rock-ish outfits like Surf Curse or maybe the garage rock punkery of bands like Fidlar but this first glimpse of the solo indie rock project of Chicago singer-songwriter / multi-instrumentalist Cody Knauer, might swim in deeper waters.
It is an admittedly brief glimpse but "you dunno" feels cooly nostalgic. After a lounge punk dip, you can feel a blend of 90's jangle pop, strains of 80's power pop and even hints or faint homages (unintended or not) to 60's Brit pop swings. The tom tom beats, the jubilant walking bass lines, the melodic lead lines and lovely vocal aesthetic, resonant, snarky, laced with self deprecation and relationship bombs feels fun and compelling.

Combining hyper-literate lyrics and loose, joyful instrumentation with an uncompromising DIY aesthetic, Sharkorama crafts earnest rock ’n’ roll for slackers. The solo vehicle of Chicago singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Cody Knauer, Sharkorama brings anything-goes energy and Midwestern swagger to a nostalgic sound that falls somewhere beneath the indie-rock umbrella.
