"so come find me where you left me..."
There is so much going on artistically on "Read Receipts' by Brisbane, Australia's 4 piece divergent rockers WAAX. Within the rock indie (sort of) punk personified sound I hear generations of musical attitudes blended throughout artistic dynamism. Maybe what I sense most is a blend of 80's new wave and Gothic rock iterations but there are also dreamy sonic cues to Heartland rock. I truly love the drum work and guitar crunching and bass drive that feels vastly romantic. Marie "Maz" DeVita's broken vocal swagger feels avant pop noir-ish and is so amazingly raw and punchy. In one fell swoop I thought of bands like The Motels, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, The Distillers and more. Analyze other things happening and you feel nods to 50's and 60's rockabilly and brilliantly all these cross generational genre blending not only makes sense but feels effortlessly drawn into WAAX's own sound. It is a sound hinged on atmosphere and storytelling.
"Read Receipts" accompanied with a stellar Official Video (as directed by Phoebe Faye) is from WAAX's upcoming album "At Least I'm Free" which will be released August 5th via Dew Process.
