"Inspired by anyone who is unapologetically themselves..."
Step (or waltz) into the infinitely askew world of "Weird Waltz" by singer-songwriter, musician Mayya, the band led by St. Petersburg, Russia born / San Francisco raised Mayya Feygina and her divergent cohorts, and your mind may wander to unexpected places, may expand as your body moves to the sounds. This track is an instrumental 9although most of Mayya's art or at least what I have perused seems to contain vocals) and it's different musical dances feel celebratory while at the same time sort of beautifully wonky. Like looking in a fun house mirror there is a fun drug free hallucinogenic sense here. Wonderful, wonderful guitar work and trance ridden 'Alice in Wonderland' orchestrations too. There is a unique freedom underneath Mayya's art that brought artists like Oingo Boingo, Pere Ubu, St. Vincent and Red Room Orchestra to mind even though she is her own thing entirely.
This particular song features the talents of Mayya Feygina - guitar / Spencer Owings - gtr, synth / Sam Jones - drums / Jason Cirimele - bass and Edan Mor - saxophone.
AND press notey stuff indicate details about Mayya's upcoming album:
[Fittingly, "Infinite Possible Futures" is a record that explores the eternal, internal struggle of being a good friend; both to oneself and to others. “There are infinite possible futures, as well as infinite possible presents” explains Mayya. “It is our choice - how we embrace and what we make of each moment - or don't.” So come, brave psychonaut, and follow our left-coast Alice down her melodic rabbit hole. Infinite delights await!]
I look forward to diving in.

Mayya was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and grew up in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco. Inspired by anyone who is unapologetically themselves, she aspires to create a positive environment through her melodic, energetic music.
Her first album, Tea and Chocolate, was released in May 2013. That was followed by the EPs Restless (2014) and Too Much Too Late (2016), and the 2018 LP Magic Happens. With her ever-evolving band The Revolutionary Hell Yeah!, Mayya released their self-titled debut Mayya & The Revolutionary Hell Yeah! in 2015, Open Minds Open Minds (2017), Live at Cosmic Jive (2018) and Opposing The Numb (2019).
Once she’d written the bones of the songs for Infinite Possible Future, she turned as always to her close-knit crew of compatriots to record; guitarist Spencer Owings (Juicebumps), bassist Jason Cirimele (Dust Collector, Indianna Hale) drummer Sam Jones (Mae Powell, Mild Universe), saxophonist Edan Mor, and violinist Sivan Lioncub (Everyone Is Dirty). The record was tracked and co-produced by Chris Daddio at Donut Time Audio in Oakland, CA, and mixed and mastered by Greg Saunier (Deerhoof).
Fittingly, Infinite Possible Futures is a record that explores the eternal, internal struggle of being a good friend; both to oneself and to others. “There are infinite possible futures, as well as infinite possible presents” explains Mayya. “It is our choice - how we embrace and what we make of each moment - or don't.” So come, brave psychonaut, and follow our left-coast Alice down her melodic rabbit hole. Infinite delights await!
